Inventory Analyst

Ashland, VA
Full Time
Mid Level

QRFS is growing fast. We are adding thousands of products to our catalog every year, serving customers who expect fast, accurate fulfillment, and operating with the discipline of a lean business that cannot afford to guess.

Inventory sits at the center of all of it.

When we get inventory decisions right, orders ship same day, customers trust us, cash flow stays predictable, and operations run smoothly. When we get them wrong, everything downstream gets harder.

That’s why we are hiring an Inventory Analyst — a role designed for someone who wants to own one of the most important decision engines in the company.

This is not a management track. It is not a stepping-stone job. This is a career-defining mastery role for someone who loves optimization, disciplined decision-making, and seeing their work create immediate, visible impact.

The Challenge You’ll Own

Our product catalog is large and growing, with many long-tail SKUs that may sell rarely — or never. We cannot keep everything in stock, and we cannot afford to be reactive.
Your job is to figure out:
  • Which products should be stocked
  • How much to keep on hand
  • When to replenish
  • How to do all of that while staying within budget
You’ll work with imperfect data, evolving assumptions, and real-world constraints. You’ll make decisions daily, learn from outcomes, and continuously refine the logic behind them.
If you enjoy turning complexity into clarity — and pressure-testing your thinking over time — this role will be deeply satisfying.

What You’ll Do

Inventory intelligence (core)
  • Build, maintain, and refine inventory forecasting and stocking logic
  • Decide what products are stocked, in what quantities, and on what cadence
  • Balance fulfillment performance with strict inventory budget constraints
  • Analyze backorders and stockouts to improve future decisions
  • Translate internal inventory strategy into clear, confidence-building availability signals
  • Document assumptions, decisions, and learnings so the system improves over time
Limited purchasing execution (to support decision quality and speed)
  • Create accurate purchase orders based on the approved decision artifact
  • Issue POs and track them through receipt
  • Ensure quantities, pricing, and terms match what was approved
Important boundary: You will not own vendor relationships, negotiation, expediting, or day-to-day issue resolution — those remain with operations. Your role is to keep purchasing execution aligned to the inventory strategy and to learn from what reality reveals.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills (this is the primary tool today)
  • Comfort making high-impact decisions with incomplete or messy data
  • Ability to think in systems, document logic, and refine it over time
  • Clear written communication
  • A desire to master a role deeply rather than move quickly to the next title

Why This Role Is Different

  • Your work directly affects customer experience, cash flow, and operational stability
  • You will see the impact of your decisions quickly and clearly
  • This role is designed for depth and ownership, not constant role-hopping
  • As the business grows, the complexity of the problem grows with it
  • You’ll collaborate closely with Operations while keeping clear boundaries that protect focus and decision quality

Who Thrives Here

This role is a great fit if you:
  • Love optimization and continuous improvement
  • Enjoy working through the same problem repeatedly and making it better each time
  • Take pride in disciplined, well-reasoned decisions
  • Want your work to make everyone else’s job easier
This role is not a good fit if you are looking for rapid promotion, people management, or a loosely defined set of responsibilities.

What We Offer

  • A stable, high‑impact role at the heart of the business
  • Clear ownership and decision authority
  • On‑site collaboration in Richmond, VA
  • The opportunity to help shape how inventory decisions scale as QRFS grows
  • Healthcare benefits and 401K with company matching
  • Paid Time Off: 14 days PTO, plus 6 Federal Holidays and the Day After Thanksgiving.
  • Office Dog: Plato, our office dog, is always ready to play when you need a break.
We use the TopGrading methodology to ensure we hire and retain high-performing individuals who are aligned with our values and goals.

If you’re excited by ownership, judgment, and mastery, and want to run a decision engine that the entire company depends on, we’d love to hear from you.
